One week.
Manhattan apartment.
Super-hot ex-boyfriend.
…What’s the worst that could happen?
It’s been nine months since Kaitlyn Parker has seen or heard from Martin Sandeke—nine months and five stages of matter. She’s lived through the worst of first-love heartbreak, and is most certainly stronger (and less likely to hide in science cabinets) than ever before.
But now Martin is back. And he wants to be friends. But he’s sending mixed signals to the Bunsen burner in Kaitlyn’s pants.
Will Martin re-capture Kaitlyn’s heart? Can Kaitlyn and Martin ever be just friends? Or, despite an abundance of chemistry, are some bonds just too unstable to endure?
Quote:
I tripped over my words, my heart in my throat, thumping wildly. The time was now, this was my chance to confront him and decide things between us.

However, before I could form the pointed question that would serve as the key to unlocking our conversation, he said, “So, let’s say I like this girl…”

My mouth dropped open and I felt like I’d been tackled from behind, my breath leaving me with a whoosh. I blinked at him. The room tilted.

“Kaitlyn?”

“Yes?” I managed to breathe, though the room continued to dip precariously. I realized I was gripping the table and forced myself to release it, my hands falling to my lap.

“Are you…” his eyes narrowed on me, “Are you all right?”

Just because you don’t feel calm, doesn’t mean you can’t be calm.

I nodded. “Yes. Fine. So you like a girl.” I sounded like a robot.

“Yeah. And I need your advice about her.”

“You need my advice about her.” I was careful to keep my expression unruffled and unconcerned, even though my brain was abruptly on fire. I noted that there was a butter knife on the table and I briefly imagined stabbing him with it.

Really? Two days after that text message, he was going to ask me advice about another girl? Really?

Wow.

WOW!

Boys are stupid. I needed to explore becoming a lesbian. I needed to add this to my todo list and bump it up to the top.

Review:

Soooo. This is the third and final part to Elements of Chemistry. There are a couple of things that I should make sure that you know first of all.  1) This is NOT a stand alone book. It is the third part of a larger story. If you read them out of order or skip a part the rest won't makes sense.  2) The author has stated that she doesn't encourage reading all three parts back to back. Of course, I didn't listen to the author and read all 3 in one day. I have 2 words for you: Book Hangover. That's right. I am warning you now. Don't come crying to me if you don't listen. And finally 3) This was an awesome story, even if it is New Adult and not one of my typical genres.

The first two parts of this story take place during a time frame of just a couple of weeks. This third part is 9 months later. Not really a spoiler, but no, the 9 months has nothing to do with a pregnancy. Just get that out of your head right now. It is a gestation period, but more for the person that Kaitlyn wants to become, not who her parents expect her to become. Truly, I think Kaitlyn and Martin needed the time apart to grow and mature. Their time together was a catalyst for changes in them both, they just needed the time to implement those changes.

As I said earlier, this book left me with a serious book hangover. I couldn't read another book for a least a day or two, trapped as I still was in the world created by the author. It is both an amazing and bewildering feeling to be so immersed in a world, that when the book ends you are left feeling slightly adrift.  Needless to say, when a book affects me like that, it deserves no less than 5 stars.

    1. I have felt that way myself sometimes. *grin* I also love her saying "Just because you don’t feel calm, doesn’t mean you can’t be calm." She uses it multiple times in the book, and I am stealing it as my own mantra.
