They're tight
They're on target
They're as alpha as men can get.

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret... they're a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive—and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn't sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something... and she's determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She's smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she's getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart...
She took out her key and slipped it into the lock, then turned to invite him in. But Gage spoke first.

“I had an amazing time tonight. I haven’t had that much fun in a long time.”

She smiled. “Me, too.” Then she took a deep breath and jumped in the deep end. “The fun doesn’t have to end yet, you know.”

“I know.” The hot look in his eyes almost set her on fire right there in the hallway. She wasn’t sure they’d make it as far as the entryway once they got inside. But he shook his head. “We’ve got an early day tomorrow. PT starts at 0630. You need to get your sleep if you’re going to be all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed for it.”

Bright-eyed and bushy-tailed? But Gage was already heading for the elevator.

“Wait!” He turned. “What’s PT, and why the hell does it start so early?”

He pushed the down button for the elevator. “It’s short for physical training—exercise. We do it three days a week, and we start early so we can get it over with before it gets too hot. You said you wanted to see us train, remember? So you’ll have proof that we’re not using PEDs.”

Crap. After all the flirting, touching, and heated looks across the table, she’d been so sure he’d spend the night with her.

The elevator door opened and he stepped inside. “No buts, Mackenzie. See you tomorrow at 0630 hours.”

The doors closed and just like that, her chance of seeing the hunky SWAT officer naked disappeared.

Mackenzie Stone is given a tip about the Dallas SWAT team - that they are using some kind of drugs to enhance their physical performance. At first Mac thinks it's just sour grapes from a bad guy that got busted by them. But the more she starts to dig into them, the more things don't add up.

Gage Dixon is the leader of SWAT: Special Wolf Alpha Team, as they call themselves. He's more annoyed than anything with the antics of one nosy journalist. After all, he is keeping his team of alpha level werewolves in check and bound together as a unit.  Not much can compete with that. But when the two actually meet face to face and start to spend time together, the sparks and heat being generated between them takes them both by surprise.

Mac was feisty and kept Gage on his toes. I liked that although Gage was an Alpha's Alpha, he wasn't an ass about it. He really did care about his community and his men and this clearly came across in everything he did. I do wish that we had gotten some more information on this book's werewolf mythology. Hopefully we will get more in the next book. I enjoyed the start of this series and gave it 4 stars.

  1. The lack of world building was frustrating for me but the series has a lot of potential.

    1. Yes, it does have a lot of potential. I adored the interactions between Mac and Gage and Gage and his men. I also like that Mac was the one in the wrong. So often it's the guy who screws up, but when Mac screwed up and then she owned it... It made me like this book a bit more.

  2. Oh yes. I enjoyed that scene. I liked most of the book and LOVED the men but omg there was a bit towards the end with her that had me raging a bit since I really didn't think she groveled enough fro what she did. lol I'm seriously excited about book two though.

    1. I don't know Anna, it's not like she actually told anyone. And damn, but you find out he's a werewolf the way she did, and you might run screaming away too. I was okay with her apology because of doing it in front of the pack like she did. I have the ARC for book 2 on my reader right now.... heheheh.. It's 3 books down on the review rotation.. Whoots!

    2. Eh. It wasn't really the freak out that bothered me but the I'm going to tell the world and not care if it destroys all of your lives thing that turned me off her. I just didn't buy her turn around and tears either. Wasn't enough for me to forgive her and couldn't believe they did. But I loved the writing of the book and was all in until then. I know it didn't bother a lot of people and am very glad about that but just didn't work for me personally.

I've got book 2 for review as well and really am looking forward to it.
