In Plymouth Rock & Roll, guitarist Clancy Parker can't wait to play a major hometown gig in Massachusetts, but she must first track down a rock star who is running amok.I was expecting this third book in the Clancy Parker Msytery series to be similar in nature to the first two in the series... in some ways it was, but in many ways it was not. The first book spent more time on the actual detective agency work, while the second one Clancy mixed undercover detective work and the more tabloid aspects of the music industry. This third book spends more time on the behind the scenes actual business aspects of the music industry, mixed with a healthy chunk of politics, both gubernatorially and musically, rather than actual detective work.
Clancy's ex-boyfriend, grunge icon Patrick Price, needs a big favor. Justin Hollander, the frontman for Patrick's new supergroup, has gone AWOL after biting a police officer, and Patrick needs to find him so they can headline the New Pilgrim rock festival. If Clancy can corral Justin, she has a chance at reuniting with her ex and maybe even getting publicity for her band, the Marquee Idols.
As this job gets more high-profile by the minute, Clancy soon realizes she might achieve the fame she's dreamed of, only she might not be alive long enough to enjoy it.
Clancy's background has not been the focus of the former books, but in this one, we get to meet the parents... okay, well, parent. There is also a bit of a trip down memory lane with Patrick Price, the maybe-sorta-kinda-pretend boyfriend from the last book. The band, including Harold, her landlord and "manager", has come back to Clancy's old stomping grounds of Plymouth, Mass. They are there to play the New Pilgrim rock festival, and for Harold to see his estranged son. Who just happens to be running Clancy's father's campaign for governor.
When one of Patrick's band mate's assault on a police officer is linked through Clancy to her dad, she has to find Justin, before he drags her father's campaign down with him. Oh yeah, and find time to practice with her band before their biggest crowd yet. It's a wild ride; showcasing the underbelly of the rock scene, the principled side of politics and the surprising talents of her friends. Once I got started I had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait to see where the author takes us next. Another fantastic read and 4 stars.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.
